Junior Section - up to 16 years old

You have tried golf at school - now try on a real course!

Juniors can join the club for only £30 per year. They are then able to play the course at any time, with or without an adult. They should check in with the steward before play so that he can make sure the course is available and so that he knows that juniors are playing.

The earlier you start to play the better are your chances to become really good. Most juniors can begin to play really well from about 7 or 8 years old; most of our present players are 9 or 10 and above.

Coaching Sessions

From April to September there are junior coaching sessions at the club. These are free to all junior members of the club. Non-members are also invited to join the sessions at a cost of £2 per session.

Junior sessions take place 5pm-6pm on Fridays.

Beginners will work through the ClubGolf scheme, level 1. Those returning for a second year will progress to the year 2 skills. Every player has a golf passport which shows the skills which are covered and gives advice on many aspects of play.

More experienced players have a chance to take part in a three or five hole challenge.

Lesley Whitwood is your level one coach and she can be contacted on 01887 840416 or by email: lesleywhitwood@btinternet.com

Don't worry about clubs, tees and balls; while you are learning you can borrow Clubgolf equipment until you decide to buy your own.

Just inside the entrance door of the club is the junior noticeboard. Competition and coaching details will be posted there.

We hope to arrange some competitions for junior players during the season so watch the noticeboards and web site for details.

There are also many open competitions going on and these are listed on the Perth and Kinross County Golf web site.

To play in open competitions you need an official handicap - as you improve we can arrange for you to go out with players who can mark a card to count towards getting a handicap. As you learn you will be given an unofficial club handicap for internal competitions.
